But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called “Today,” so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.
I don’t care how much you pray for it, how hard you work at it and how much you wish for it, you will never ever be privileged to see today any more for the rest of your entire life.
Today is so unique and special. It has a peculiar name of its own. It is called Wednesday, the ninth day of March in the year 2018. When today is gone, it will be gone forever.
There are some things that we said yesterday which are irrevocable. Some errors made that are irreparable. Some decisions made that cannot be rescinded, some actions taken that cannot he undone.
Today however, is a brand new gift from God; providing an opportunity for you to start afresh with a new perspective. It is an opportunity to make amendments regarding the mistakes of yesterday to circumvent undesirable consequences and elicit a more favorable tomorrow. Yes, you may never be able to undo what has already been done, but you have the possibility to ameliorate your performance.
Instead of being confined in a defensive stance which restricts you to a passive reaction in relation to what life brings, today ushers the possibility for a proactive participation in shaping the future you envisage.
Today presents an opportunity to move away from the hurts, pain, sadness and sorrows that blighted our yesterdays into a brighter and more hopeful day.
It provides an opportunity to be absolved of the sins, guilt and darkness of yesterday, so as to walk anew in righteousness today. You might have messed up so badly yesterday to the point of self-loathing, but you can start all over again and do better today.
You might have endured the most despicable acts, suffered the most embarrassing moment or went through a most devastating incident yesterday, but today is a brand new day. A day to shake off the dust, trust in your God, walk in faith and believe that He is working it all out for your good and for His glory. Romans 8:28
If you had walked in sin yesterday, you can repent and walk in holiness today.
Never allow the negative occurrences of yesterday to impale you from maximizing today’s potential.
The concept of “time- travel” into history is a fantasy of the human mind; expressing the innate desire to be afforded another opportunity to redo things we should have, could have and would have done differently to obtain more desirable results. Results that could be more positively consequential today. Alas! That is not realism.
That notwithstanding, there is still hope. Today is here and you are privileged to be a part of it. You can actually do something about your yesterday by making today a better day for a brighter and more predictable tomorrow.
You have the power and prospect to reverse negative trends and consequences activated by yesterday’s missteps today if you would address the issues head-on.
Today is a chance to make a more positive impact in the life of someone you might have despised or neglected yesterday.
It is an occasion to manifest a more loving and caring attitude toward someone you mistreated yesterday. An opportunity to do and say the right things this time around. To offer a warm smile and be more accommodating towards that person you ignored.
It is a prospect to stretch out a helping hand and assist someone with a need. A chance to start treating others with fairness, respect and equity. An opportunity to pray earnestly for someone you never took time to pray for.
It is an opportunity to tell someone about the love of God. An opportunity to finally reconcile and make peace with that person you hate. A chance to make that call and say “hi” or visit the person you have been in conflict with for so long.
It is an opportunity to treat your spouse, children, siblings, friends, family and neighbors with more attentiveness, compassion, love and concern than you did yesterday.
Why is today so precious and special? It is because it is all you’ve got to work with right now. Tomorrow is not guaranteed.
That person you refuse to forgive and reconcile with may not be around anymore tomorrow. The opportunities you neglect and procrastinate may no longer be available in a few hours.
Many who had dreams about doing something great or being someone better tomorrow are not here anymore. Some of them are still here, but no longer in a position to do what they could have done yesterday.
They all dreamed about making that grand decision, pursuing that brilliant dream, starting that anointed ministry, helping those poor folks and getting closer to God tomorrow. They dreamed about using their gifts and talents to serve God and bless humanity tomorrow; they dreamed about starting that business, writing those books, singing those songs and painting those sceneries. Well… today happens to be the tomorrow they dreamed about. Unfortunately, many of them are no longer here to see it.
Today is that tomorrow in which they intended to change their lifestyles and be a better husband, a better wife, a better child, a better parent, a better friend or colleague. Too bad. They did not know that yesterday was the very last “today” they had in which they could have done what they had been planning to do for so long.
They thought that yesterday was just another “today”. It is never “just another day.” It is never “just a different day”. It is always a new day. A great day with great opportunities to affect time and eternity positively for yourself and many others.
Consider today as one in a lifetime opportunity to do something you may never have the chance to do anymore. Make it a day that will go down in the history of time as well as eternity, as positively impactful. Make it a day to be recorded as one in which you intentionally did something to make the world a better place. You could be a blessing to someone today.
Part of what you experience today has a strong correlation to the decisions you made and the course of action you chose to follow yesterday.
Likewise, your actions and decisions today are fundamentally foundational and preemptive of what you will encounter and experience not only tomorrow, but in eternity.
Note that it is possible to make adjustments, correct mistakes, redo projects, reconcile with man and God, and strive to make it right while it is called today, because we are still in the dimension called TIME.
The decisions and actions you execute in this current dimension of life called TIME, determines what you will have to deal with in the next dimension called ETERNITY.
In eternity, the blessing of having a brand new day which enables us to start afresh will no longer be available. So never take a day called “TODAY” for granted.
Yesterday is gone forever, tomorrow is still to come, but Thanks be to God! Today is here and it’s all yours.
Take advantage of it and make it count for TIME and for ETERNITY.
What are you going to do today?
